Surprisingly no. Many soap makers use artificial scents or "fragrances" and colors. Good Nature Soap is scented with all natural essential oils, plant resins and extracts. Many of our soaps are naturally beautiful and the rest get their hue from natural vegetable pigments.
If I bought it in the health food store is it better than commercial soap?
Many soaps found in health food stores contain "fragrance" and many others will not list their ingredients; you decide.
What are "fragrance oils"?
Fragrance oils are artificial scents created in a laboratory and are often made from petroleum. Many fragrance oils are considered "sensitizers" which can cause problems with sensitive skin. Fragrance oils are never considered "natural". We will not use fragrance oils in our soap.
Why should I use natural soap?
Your skin is the largest organ you have. If you eat healthy, why would you rub artificial cleansers all over yourself?
Aren't soap and detergent the same thing?
In a word; NO. Soap is the product of a strong base (lye) and a weak acid (oil/fat) reacting with each other. Detergents are chemical cleansers often made from petroleum. Detergents are never considered good for your skin.
Does this soap have lye in it?
The short answer is no. The truth is that all soap is made with lye; oil or fat reacts with lye to create soap in a chemical process called "saponification". When this process is complete, there is no lye present in the soap.
My Grandma used to make "lye soap" and it was very harsh!
Grandma may have used wood ash to produce caustic potash or potassium hydroxide, a form of lye. In those days folks used a bit of guesswork with their measurements. One old recipe for soap suggested floating an egg in the potash solution to see if it was ready! These days we're a little more scientific with our recipes. Instead of potash we use sodium hydroxide, a different form of lye which comes from sea water and makes a much harder bar of soap. We also use SAP tables that tell us exactly how much lye to use (every oil or fat is different) and we meticulously weigh our ingredients to insure a perfect bar of soap every time.
Why choose "Good Nature Soap"?
Our soap is all natural, made from only the best ingredients. Good Nature Soap comes from vegetable oils which are considered to benefit your skin. We do not use animal fats or artificial ingredients and we NEVER test on animals. We think you'll notice a difference.
